Description
The Gables, located on Jackson Hill, is a house dating from the mid-to-late 18th century, with some remains from the 17th century and alterations made in the 20th century. The exterior features pebbledashed rubble with sandstone dressings and a slate roof. The house is two storeys high and has three bays. The windows are sashed with glazing bars and have plain stone surrounds. The central bay contains a door with a stone surround and a cornice hood, flanked by lights that are likely a 20th-century addition, which also feature sashes with glazing bars. There are chimneys on the gables, one to the left of the door and another to the left of the right-hand bay. The right-hand chimney cap has a weathered offset and a moulded cornice. Inside, the left-hand room contains two axial moulded beams typical of the 17th century, both featuring scarf joints near the gable wall. These beams may have originated from a 17th-century house and could have been modified when a firehood bressumer was removed. The entrance hall includes one chamfered beam and one moulded beam.
