Description
Gorsuch Hall is a farmhouse that likely dates from around 1760, although it has a restoration date of 1895 inscribed above the door. The building is constructed from handmade brick in Flemish bond, sitting on a sandstone plinth with sandstone dressings. It has a double-depth, three-bay plan and stands three storeys high, designed in a classical style. The exterior features include rusticated stone quoins, stone bands on two levels, a moulded gutter cornice, and gable chimneys.
The central entrance has a door with six fielded panels, framed by a stone doorcase and lintel that includes pseudo-voussoirs and a keystone. The ground floor has two wide vertical rectangular windows, while the first floor has three square windows, and the second floor features three horizontal rectangular windows. All windows have moulded sills and splayed heads, with the heads of the ground and first-floor windows matching that of the door. The gable walls contain some inserted or altered windows at lower levels.
At the rear, there is a two-storey extension to the first bay, a large rectangular window with a splayed head at both the ground and first floors of the second bay, a smaller similar window in the centre at the first floor, and three smaller altered windows at the second floor. The interior has been altered, presumably during the 1895 restoration, and features a later Victorian staircase that rises from the central entrance passage. Overall, Gorsuch Hall is a notable example of mid-Georgian domestic architecture.
