Description
The mounting steps, located 10 metres south of Number 116 on Downholland Station Road, date from the early 19th century or earlier. They consist of coursed rubble sandstone walling that supports a flight of five ashlar sandstone steps. The base step is now partially sunk into the adjacent 20th-century tarmacked footway. At the top of the steps, there is a mounting platform made of a massive square sandstone flagstone, which is the same depth as the flight of steps. The steps are built against the boundary wall of Number 116 but are not attached to it.
