Description
Parbold Hall is a large house built in the early to mid 18th century, with some remains from the 17th century. It is constructed of sandstone and features a hipped slate roof. The central section and three right-hand bays are made of ashlar and are two storeys high, with a storey band, a dentilled cornice, and a blocking course. The windows in this part are sashed with glazing bars and have architraves with stepped keystones. The three left-hand bays are built of rubble and also stand two storeys high with an attic. The windows here are sashed with glazing bars and have plain reveals. Blocked openings in the stonework indicate that the ashlar casing of a 17th-century house was not fully completed. The pedimented centre features a Doric Venetian doorway on the ground floor, with a fanlight that rises within a pediment. Above, on the first floor, is an Ionic Venetian window. The carving in the upper pediment includes a camelopard, which is the crest of Thomas Crisp, who is likely the builder of the house. The interior was not accessible during the survey in April 1987, but it is reported to contain panelling, including a garden hall with a rusticated dado and Gibbs door surrounds.
