Description

Manor Cottage is a house dating to the 17th century, with alterations made since. It is constructed of sandstone rubble. The main part of the house has a roof of stone slate and two storeys. The left-hand section is gabled, featuring a window on each floor with plain reveals. A third window is located at the right level of this section, sharing the sill of the first-floor window. A re-set stone inscribed 'TL 1686' is set under the apex of the gable. To the right is a four-light, double-chamfered mullioned window on the ground floor, next to a window set within a blocked doorway; the lintel of this doorway has been re-cut with the inscription ‘HL’. A window with plain reveals is located under the eaves. The left-hand part of the house, originally a shippon (a former cowshed), has a lower slate roof, one storey and an attic. It contains two 20th-century windows with plain reveals and concrete lintels, with a doorway between them. A re-set datestone, inscribed ‘GPM TI 1718’, is above the doorway, and a dormer window provides attic lighting.
