Description
Parbold Cabin Signal Box is a signal box built in 1877 on the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway's Wigan to Southport line, which was opened in 1855. It features a rectangular plan and is constructed from brick and timber, topped with a hipped slate roof. The base and north wall are made of brick, and the south side has three low windows with segmental arches. Above these, there are two rows of glazing, with the upper row consisting of horizontal sashes. The building has curved eaves brackets and external timber steps on the east side, along with a chimney on the north. This signal box is a Saxby and Farmer Type 9 and was fitted with a new locking frame in 1983.
