Description

A barn, likely dating from the 16th century, was significantly altered and enlarged in the late 19th century. The barn’s main significance lies in its three large, complete cruck trusses. These trusses feature massive blades with blocking pieces, spur ties, subordinate spurs, and yokes, all pegged and morticed with some timbers halved. Trenched staggered purlins are also present. The truss design suggests an early date. The barn’s structure includes later random rubble walls and a corrugated iron gable-end roof. The front of the barn has doorways and two-light windows, while one section projects forward under a catslide, which may mark the former position of a threshing doorway. The rear features irregularly disposed 19th-century openings, though some early framing is visible.
