Description

A farmhouse, dating from circa 1700, now divided into two cottages. The building is constructed of coursed squared sandstone, with the right gable watershot, and has a roof of brown tiles. Three bays are present, with the first bay set back from the main facade. It is two storeys in height. The front features a blocked doorway in the centre, a two-light chamfered mullion window on each floor to the left, a similar two-light stair window to the right of the door, and another at the first floor of the third bay. Other windows have been altered. A brick chimney is located at the right gable. The rear is of slobbered brick with a two-course band. It features two doorways, two windows at ground floor level, and three above, most of which have been altered.

Internally, remains of earlier timber framing can be found in a partition wall between No. 1 and the adjacent St. Joseph's presbytery, including two wall posts and a tie-beam. On the first floor of No. 1, a recess once used as an altar remains, now panelled over. In No. 2, a dogleg staircase from the 18th century exhibits square newels and turned balusters.

The building served as a Roman Catholic chapel prior to the construction of St. Joseph's Church. A garden wall, constructed of ashlar with decoratively carved quoins, extends to the south. It is approximately 2.5 metres high and 10 metres long, with a doorway located in the projected centre.
