Description
The presbytery, attached at the south end of the Church of St. Joseph, dates from the late 18th century. It is constructed of ashlar stone with raised quoins and features a slate roof with gable chimneys. The building has a double-depth layout and consists of two bays across three storeys.
On the left side, there is a wide elliptical-headed doorway that includes a glazed and panelled door, side lights, a fanlight, and a moulded architrave with imposts and a keystone. To the right of the doorway is an altered and enlarged window. Each floor above features two large rectangular windows with plain surrounds; the first-floor windows are tripartite sashes, while the upper windows are partly blocked and contain casements in the centre. The building is topped with a moulded eaves cornice.
There is a single-storey addition to the left, which is of less architectural interest, and No. 1 Chapel Fold continues to the right. The presbytery is also known as Stanfield House.
