Description

4 Nixons Court is a farmhouse, now a house, dated 1719 on the lintel and has been altered and recently renovated. It is constructed of handmade brick with some stone quoins at the ground floor, a stone plinth, and a stone slate roof. The building has a double-depth, 2-bay plan with a projecting porch and stands two and a half storeys tall, featuring a symmetrical design with gable chimneys and bands on two levels.

The 2½-storey gabled porch has a rusticated stone surround to a segmental-headed outer doorway, with a large lintel that has a shouldered panel inscribed with "N/R I/1719." Above the doorway, there is a vertical rectangular window on each floor, with the lower window having a gauged brick head. There are two other windows on each floor, all similar except for the one on the left at ground floor, which has been altered. The attic features windows in gabled half-dormers. The right gable wall includes a tall narrow fire window with a gauged brick head and a two-course band above it, along with a doorway to the rear bay, which is a gable-end baffle-entry. The rear of the building has six simple rectangular windows, with the central ones serving as stairlights, all having similarly altered glazing.

Inside, the front and rear rooms of the second bay each feature an inglenook with a stone heck and stopped-moulded bressumers. The building has ovolo-moulded beams on both floors and a full-height closed-string staircase with panelled rectangular newels and turned balusters. There are smoke hoods on the first floor over the inglenook, and plank doors with moulded surrounds.
