Description
A farmhouse, likely dating from the early 18th century, has been subsequently divided into two houses. An extension was added to the left side. The original farmhouse is constructed of rendered brick with a slate roof and some internal timber framing. The extension is brick, rendered and painted black and white to the front, with stone dressings and a slate roof. The original farmhouse follows a T-plan with a rear extension, and has two bays. It is two storeys high and symmetrical, featuring a two-storey porch containing a staircase beside the front door. There are two windows on each floor, all with stone sills and modern casements. Gable chimney stacks are present. The interior contains chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, some timber-framed partition walls of posts and rails on both floors, and roof structure including two original purlins, two pairs of principal rafters (one of which is re-used). The extension was built as a projecting crosswing, forward of the main axis of the original house. It has two higher storeys and an attic, with the eaves of the roof level with the ridge of the original house. A prominent two-storey canted bay window features Venetian-style windows set within elaborately moulded stone surrounds, and a Diocletian window above. Rusticated stone quoins are at the front corners of the wing, while plain stone quoins are found to the rear corner at ground floor level. A moulded stone eaves cornice is also present. The left return wall is of unrendered handmade brick. A ground floor room was formerly used as a dairy.
