Description
Old Hall is a house dated 1660, now divided into two dwellings. It is constructed of brick with pebbledash, featuring some timber-framing and stone quoins that are now rendered, topped with stone slate roofs. The building has an L-shaped plan, with a main range of three bays and a two-bay crosswing that extends forward. It has two storeys, with the crosswing being slightly lower, and includes modern single-storey extensions at the rear. Each range has one ridge chimney stack.
A two-storey porch with a mono-pitch roof is located in the re-entrant, above which is a datestone displaying the arms of the Charnock family and inscribed with "IHS A MR R C 16 60". The ground floor features two concrete mullioned windows, one with four lights and the other with three lights, the latter flanked by ground floor buttresses. On the first floor, there are two windows: one is an oblong with four lights and new wooden mullions, while the other is square with new wooden mullions and a transom. All windows have eared surrounds. The re-entrant wall, where not covered by the porch, shows elements of timber framing. The gable of the wing has one tall 19th-century casement window on each floor. The left return wall includes two eaves-level windows, one of which retains its stone mullions, along with two ground floor windows. The roof of the main range is hipped at the left end.
Inside, the central bay of the house features an inglenook bressummer and two ovolo-moulded bridging beams.
