Description

This is a late 19th-century Methodist manse. It is built of rock-faced sandstone with dressed bands and carved details, and has a steeply-pitched slate roof with several tall chimneys. The building is roughly square, with three bays, the third of which was designed as a projecting gabled crosswing. It is two and a half storeys high and constructed in a Gothic style.

A single-storey gabled porch is situated in the re-entrant angle where the crosswing meets the main section, and features a moulded arch supported by shafts with heavily carved foliage at the capitals. To the left of the porch is a three-light sash window with arched heads to the individual lights and shafts with carved capitals. Above this is a pair of sash windows, and a gabled attic dormer with a small window consisting of two arched lights. To the right of the porch is a canted bay window on the ground floor, featuring a central shaft, a machicolated cornice, and sash windows. Above is a pair of sash windows with arched heads, and in the gable, an attic window matching the one in the dormer. The right return wall has a gabled central bay that projects slightly, with window openings similar to those on the front gable. The building is included on the list for its group value with the nearby Methodist Church.
