Description

Two railway viaducts and a linking revetment were built in 1848 to carry the East Lancashire Railway over the River Ogden and alongside the east side of Higher Mill in Helmshore. Designed by engineer J.S. Perring, the structure is made of rock-faced stone. Each viaduct features seven segmental arches supported by battered piers, with dressed springing, a band, and parapet coping that continues along the revetment. The line is slightly curved and serves as a backdrop to Higher Mill at the southern end and to the houses on Holcombe Road at the northern end.
