Description
Cribden House School is a large house, formerly known as Brynbella, built for the Whitehead family in the 19th century and now used as a school. It is constructed of sandstone ashlar, with a rock-faced rear and a hipped slate roof. The building has a double-pile, four-bay plan and stands two storeys tall in a classical style. It features rusticated quoins, which are vermiculated at the ground floor, as well as string courses on two levels and a modillioned cornice.
The symmetrical garden front, facing east, has a two-bay centre that projects forward and includes four French windows at the ground floor, all with panelled jambs, consoles, and pediments. The central windows have segmental pediments, while the first floor features four-pane sashes with lugged architraves. The two-bay left return wall matches the centre of the garden front.
At the re-entrant angle, there is a service part at the rear, which also faces the drive. This area contains a square porch with channelled rustication, a round-headed doorway on one side, a matching window on the other side, and a balustraded parapet. Inside, the staircase and decorations are contemporary with the building.
