Description

Clerk Hill is a house, likely dating from 1772, although it incorporates earlier fabric. The house is constructed from sandstone rubble, painted to the front, and has a hipped slate roof. The facade features a two-bay recessed central section flanked by projecting two-bay wings. The design includes chamfered quoins, a band, and a cornice with a blocking course. The windows have architraves and are sash windows, originally without glazing bars. A 19th-century single-storey canted bay window now occupies the left-hand bay of the left-hand wing. The wings are connected by a single-storey loggia supported by two Tuscan columns with engaged columns as responds. The central doorway has an architrave. Lead downspouts with hoppers dated 'I?W 1719' are positioned either side of the recessed centre. Chimneys are located to the left of the right-hand wing, set back in the centre of the left-hand wing, and on the left-hand wall. The rear elevation features a stair window with a plain stone surround and a round head, along with a Venetian window on each floor, featuring sashed windows with glazing bars.
