Description

The Old Courthouse is a house built in 1859, incorporating earlier elements. It is constructed of mainly limestone rubble with sandstone dressings and features a stone slate roof. The building has three storeys to the left of the porch and two storeys to the right, with furrowed quoins.

To the right of the porch, there is a 5-light 17th-century mullioned window with an inner hollow chamfer and outer chamfer. Adjacent to this are two windows with glazing bars and chamfered stone surrounds. On the first floor, there are three large sash windows with glazing bars, set in chamfered stone surrounds and topped with hoods. A string course runs beneath the sills. The windows to the left of the porch are all 19th-century, featuring furrowed tooling on their chamfered stone surrounds and mullions. The ground floor has three tall three-light windows, while the first floor includes three-light and two-light windows. The second floor has two-light and three-light windows.

The gabled porch is two storeys high and has a 19th-century two-light mullioned window on the first floor. The door surround is chamfered in two orders, featuring a pointed arch and a square hood mould. Above the door, there is a plaque inscribed 'HAL.ME 1859'. The roof above the right part of the facade includes a square louvre with a weather vane. The right gable has external stone steps leading to a first-floor door similar to that of the porch. The left gable features a shaped lintel that has been re-set over a doorway, inscribed '1704 HMR'.
