Description

Hook Cliffe Farmhouse is a 17th-century house constructed of sandstone rubble with a stone slate roof. It stands two storeys high with attics. The south front features mullioned windows, which have an inner hollow chamfer and outer chamfer. On the right side, there is a cross-wing that includes a 5-light window with a hood on both the ground and first floors, along with a blocked chamfered attic window above. To the left of the cross-wing, there are a 5-light and a 2-light window, both with hoods on the ground floor. On the first floor, there is a 4-light window with a plain stone surround and glazing bars to the right. The left part of the building, which is of the same construction, is used for agricultural purposes and features a 3-light mullioned window with a hood and a blocked window above on the first floor. There is also a blocked narrow chamfered doorway on the ground floor to the right.

Chimneys are located between the farm building and the house, on the left side of the cross-wing, on the right-hand wall of the cross-wing (which has a projecting stack), and on the rear wall of the cross-wing. The north wall has windows that are mainly of 19th-century style, and there is a blocked one-light chamfered window on the ground floor to the right. The main doorway, located to the left adjoining the cross-wing, has a chamfered surround and a Tudor-arched head. To the right of this doorway is another door with a plain stone surround. The east wall of the cross-wing features a 2-light mullioned window, and towards the south, there is a one-light chamfered window that is blocked by a flagstone inscribed with '1714 RA' in raised cement letters. The farm building includes a 3-light mullioned window on the ground floor, with two blocked one-light chamfered windows at intermediate levels above. On the first floor, there is a pitching hole with plain reveals. The interior is said to have exposed ceiling beams.
