Description
Wheatley Farmhouse and the former stable adjoining to the south date back to 1774, as indicated by a plaque. The farmhouse is built from squared, coursed sandstone and features a slate roof. It has a central-entry double-pile plan with end stacks and stands two storeys high with an attic. The windows have plain stone surrounds but have lost their square mullions. The front door is framed by a shouldered architrave, a narrow pulvinated frieze, and a moulded pediment.
At the rear, there is a large stone trough carved from a single piece of stone, dated 1832. The rear wall has plain stone window surrounds, with the two first-floor windows retaining their square mullions and consisting of two lights. The rear door is now located within a later extension and features an architrave with 'EHA 1758' incised on the lintel. To the left of the farmhouse is the former stable or shippon, which has a door with a plain stone surround and a round pitching hole with a plain stone surround on the first floor of the left-hand gable. Above this is a square pitching hole.
