Description

10 Bank Parade is a town house, now converted into flats, dating from around 1840 and has been altered over time. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, with sandstone dressings and a slate roof. The building has a double-depth, double-fronted plan with a small rear extension and stands two storeys over a cellar, with an added attic.

The facade features three bays and is symmetrical, framed by broad brick pilasters that have stone caps with roundels. Above this, there is a plain frieze and a moulded cornice, along with a low blocking course that has a shallow triangular upstand. The central bay, which projects slightly, includes a shallow porch with three altered steps. This porch is supported by columns with stiff-leaf caps and square abaci, and it has an entablature adorned with wreaths, a dentilled cornice, and a blocking course with a shallow triangular upstand. The first floor has a recessed window under a cornice on consoles.

The flanking bays feature canted bay windows at the ground floor, which have raised sills, moulded cornices, and blocking courses, while the first floor has plain windows with raised sills, previously fitted with wedge lintels, though the right window has been replaced with an iron lintel. All windows have altered glazing. The roof is fitted with three modern attic dormers and has gable chimneys.

At the rear, there is a small two-storey extension that runs parallel to the main building and has been altered. Inside, there is a staircase with carved brackets and a mahogany handrail, complemented by modern wrought-iron balusters. The cellar includes a complete suite of rooms, featuring a front laundry with a slopstone and washing boiler, although there is no tunnel leading to the front garden. The rest of the interior has not been inspected.
