Description
A pair of town houses dating from circa 1850, located in Preston. The houses are constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, with sandstone dressings and a slate roof topped with stone chimneys. They are arranged with a double-depth plan, each house presenting a double-fronted facade with a symmetrical arrangement of three windows on each side. The external features include banded quoined corner pilasters, a plinth, two horizontal bands dividing the floors, a small moulded frieze, and prominent projected eaves with plaster coving. Each house has a central doorway accentuated by a large panelled pilastered doorcase with a cornice resting on coupled consoles, and a panelled door with an overlight. The windows are recessed and have segmental heads. Ground-floor windows feature panelled stone aprons; No.66 has 2-pane sashes, while No.68 has plain sashes. A ventilator has been inserted in the upper leaf of the central first-floor window at No.68. The roof is shallow and hipped, with a chimney stack in the centre of the ridge and several others on No.66. Later additions are present at each end of the building. The rear of the property and its interior have not been inspected.
