Description
The stable block, located approximately 50 metres south of Old Lea Hall Farmhouse, dates from the early 17th century or earlier and has been altered over time. It is constructed of handmade brick with some stone quoins, sitting on a plinth of sandstone blocks, and features a corrugated sheet roof. The building has a rectangular plan divided by a brick partition wall and is two storeys high. The west side includes a wide doorway into each section and two large loading doors above, which are offset to the right, all topped with large stone lintels. The south gable has a blocked doorway, while the east side (rear) has two altered openings and slit breathers above. The interior boasts large stop-chamfered beams resting on moulded stone corbels, with two longitudinal beams in the south part and four lateral beams in the north part. The loft in the north part features a collar truss with angle struts, with timbers of large scantling, some of which are likely re-used. This stable block is listed for its group value with Old Lea Hall Farmhouse, as it is one of only two farm buildings remaining from the site of the former manor house.
