Description

Bridge No. 16 over the Lancaster Canal is a public road bridge built in 1797, designed by engineer John Rennie. It is constructed from large rock-faced sandstone blocks and features an elliptical arch with rusticated rock-faced voussoirs and a keystone. The bridge has a hammer-dressed band and angle-humped parapets with rounded coping. The parapets at the south end are designed with a curved splay and rectangular terminals. An oval number plate indicating "16" is located on the north-east side of the bridge.
