Description

Bridge No. 14 over Lancaster Canal is an accommodation bridge built in 1797, designed by engineer John Rennie. It is constructed from large dressed sandstone blocks and features an elliptical arch with chiselled voussoirs and triple keystones. The bridge has a chiselled band and smoothly-curved parapets with rounded coping. The inner sides of the parapets display the lug and latch of a former gate that was located across the center of the deck. The bridge has rectangular terminals and oval number plates indicating "14" on both sides at the east end.
