Description

The Stanley Arms Hotel is a public house that likely dates from the late 1850s and has undergone alterations. It features a painted stucco facade over a brick structure and has a slate roof. The building has a square plan and is designed in a classical style, standing three storeys tall above a cellar. The symmetrical facade has three bays and is topped with a pediment. The ground floor is rusticated and includes a prominent cornice, flanked by two pairs of giant Tuscan pilasters that frame the outer windows. Each pair of pilasters has a short string course, and there is a band with raised lettering that reads "STANLEY ARMS HOTEL." The facade also features a triglyph frieze and a pediment with guttae and a moulded surround.

The ground floor has a doorway with a panelled surround that rises to two pairs of consoles supporting the cornice. The square tripartite windows on this level have sashed centre lights. The central window on the first floor is topped with a pediment on consoles, while the window above it has a shouldered architrave. All of these windows are sashed without glazing bars, except for the central first-floor window, which has altered glazing. The Stanley Arms Hotel is part of a group with Nos. 20 and 22 to the right, and Nos. 16 and 18, as well as Nos. 10-14 further to the right.
