Description
This monument, located approximately 19 metres west of the tower of the Priory Church of St Mary in Lancaster, is a tomb chest and effigy dating from the mid-19th century. It is made of marble set on a sandstone plinth and features cast-iron railings. The rectangular tomb chest has clasping pilasters and displays the effigy of a young woman in a flowing gown, depicted half-reclining with her head resting on her right hand. Originally, the tomb was surrounded by cast-iron railings, but only two sides remain, and they are in damaged condition. The railings include colonnette standards at the corners and are decorated with cusped Gothic arches. Although the inscription is now illegible, the memorial is believed to commemorate Ann Rothwell, the wife of William Talbot Rothwell of Foxholes, Bay Horse.
