Description
The stocks and whipping post, located approximately 15 metres north-west of Outhwaite Farmhouse, date from around 1700 and are made of sandstone. The stocks are integrated into a field wall and consist of two square posts that are grooved on their inner sides. The upper wooden board is missing, while the lower part features four semi-circular recesses for legs. The whipping post is roughly square in shape, with chamfered and stopped sides, and has an iron ring below the top at the front. Historical records from 1721 indicate that William Edmondson of Outhwaite served as the constable of Roeburndale at that time.
