Description

House, dating from the late 18th century with earlier 17th-century fabric. It is constructed of rendered rubble with sandstone dressings, and has a slate roof. The house is arranged in an L-shape, with the main facade facing the garden to the south and a 17th-century wing facing east. The south facade has two and a half storeys, and five bays, featuring sash windows with glazing bars and plain stone surrounds on all floors. The attic windows are shorter. A central doorway is partially hidden behind a wooden porch. The door itself has plain stone jambs flanked by tall, thin lights with pointed heads, and an intersecting tracery fanlight set under a two-centred arch, all enclosed by an open pediment supported on console brackets. A moulded cornice runs along the top, above a plain parapet. Chimneys are located on the gables and to either side of the central bay, with the right-hand gable stack projecting outwards. The east-facing wing has a doorway with a moulded, shouldered architrave of 18th-century style, featuring a pulvinated frieze and cornice above. To the left of this doorway is a stepped drip mould above a modern window. To the right is a rebated and chamfered mullioned and transomed window with a drip mould. The first-floor windows are sash windows with glazing bars, framed by flat, moulded architraves of 18th-century type; one window is located to the left, with a double sash in the centre and two single windows to the right. Modern wooden casements are found in the attic. A cyma cornice is present, and the right-hand gable features chamfered quoins and a chimney. An outshut is located at the rear, set in the angle between the two wings, with a stepped mullioned and transomed, rebated, and chamfered six-light window on the first floor.
