Description

Field Cottage is a farmhouse dating from 1679, as indicated by the inscription "1679 IRM" on the lintel above the door. The building features slobbered sandstone rubble walls and a slate roof. It is a two-unit structure with a central entrance and gable stacks, standing two storeys high.

On each side of the front door, there are later tall window openings, along with traces of a blocked fire window near the right-hand gable. The first floor has three windows with rebated and chamfered surrounds, although they do not have mullions. The door surround has plain reveals, and a remaining section of the drip course rises over the lintel. There are also later outshuts added to the rear of the building.
