Description

Three columns are located adjoining the southern corner of Number 14 (Nantyr) in Lancaster. These columns likely date from around 1670 and were moved to their current position in the 1920s. They are made of sandstone ashlar and are unfluted, featuring an astragal and a moulded abacus, except for the northern column, which is adjacent to the house and has a plain abacus that appears to be a replacement. Historically, these columns were part of the Town Hall built around 1670, which was demolished in 1781 when the City Museum was constructed on Market Street. The columns were incorporated into a building that once stood where the entrance to the Westfield Memorial Village is now and were relocated to their present position in the 1920s after that building was demolished. Number 14 is not included in this listing.
