Description

Hawkshead Farmhouse and the adjoining barn date from the late 17th century. The farmhouse is built from sandstone rubble and has a stone slate roof. It features a two-unit central entrance and two chimneys. There is a 19th-century extension to the west, which has a gable stack. The building is two storeys tall, with the main facade facing south.

To the left of the front door, there is a three-light window with rebated and chamfered mullions, and to the right, a two-light window. On the first floor, there is a similar three-light window to the left and an altered window with a rebated and chamfered surround to the right. The 19th-century extension to the left has plain stone window surrounds on both floors. The front door features a plain chamfered stone surround.

On the rear wall, there is a one-light window with a rebated and chamfered surround to the left, and a doorway with plain reveals to its right. A rebated and chamfered surround remains on the first floor. To the right, there is a single-storey outshut that includes a two-light chamfered mullioned window, a window with a rebated and chamfered head and plain reveals, and a doorway with plain reveals and a re-set shaped lintel that has '1683 W A' inscribed on the central panel. The studded door is a reproduction made from softwood. The barn continues under the same roof to the right.
