Description
Ortner House, built in 1769, is a house constructed from stuccoed rubble with sandstone dressings and a slate roof. It features a double-depth plan and presents a symmetrical design with two storeys and three bays, complemented by chamfered quoins. The windows are sashed with glazing bars and have architraves. The central bay contains a door that is sheltered by a Doric porch, which has a triglyph frieze and the year '1769' inscribed within a moulded pediment. The sides of the porch have been filled in, and an outer door has been added. Gable chimneys are present on the roof.
Notably, the right-hand gable wall has a lintel inscribed '1651' that has been re-set above a cellar window. Flanking the facade are rubble garden walls, with the left wall forming one side of a slate-roofed shed that likely dates from the 19th century. This shed features a wide entrance with a stone lintel on its opposite wall, facing north-west. The gable wall of the shed that faces the house includes a re-used chamfered doorway and a re-set plaque, which reads: 'THOMAS DRINKELL AND MARYE HIS WIF SET US HERE ONE THOUSAND SIX HUNDRED SIXTY SECOND YEARE WHOEVER LOOKS UPON THIS THING LET HIM FEARE GOD AND HONOUR THE KING.'
