Description
Hay Carr Cottage, also known as the northern house, is a house built in 1687, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed from sandstone rubble and features a slate roof. The cottage has two storeys and two bays. The windows are mullioned, rebated, and chamfered, except for the left-hand first-floor window, which is only chamfered. Some of the windows have been re-tooled. The ground floor windows consist of three lights, while the first-floor windows have two lights. The entrance door, located between the two bays, is set within a wide modern stone porch and has a cyma-moulded surround with a shaped lintel inscribed with '1687 P/WS'. A chimney is situated on the right-hand (east) gable. The left-hand gable wall features a three-light rebated and chamfered mullioned window on the first floor, and at the rear of the cottage, there is a five-light mullioned window.
