Description
This is a terrace of four houses located on Sulyard Street in Lancaster, built in the early 19th century and altered in the 20th century. The houses are constructed from large blocks of sandstone ashlar with punched tooling and feature slate roofs. The design follows a double-depth plan, arranged as two pairs of houses, each with linked central doorways, centrally-placed rear extensions, and gable chimney stacks.
The terrace consists of three storeys above cellars, with a cornice and a first-floor sill band. Each pair has three bays, with a blind central bay above the doorways. All openings have plain reveals. The doorways are adorned with cornices supported by three plain consoles and feature overlights. The door to No. 10 has raised panels with re-entrant corners.
The windows of No. 4 appear to be original, featuring sashes with either 12 or 9 panes. In contrast, the windows in No. 10 are late 20th-century copies, while No. 6 has late 20th-century sashes with 12 or 9 panes, and No. 8 features late 20th-century top-hung casements.
