Description
No. 3 Dalton Square is a house that has been converted into club premises. It was built in 1824 and altered in the late 19th century. The building is constructed from sandstone ashlar with ashlar dressings and features a slate roof with a coped gable on the left and chimney stacks on both sides, the right one being shared. The structure has a double-depth plan with a central doorway, an original rear extension to the right, and a later rear extension along Sulyard Street. It stands three storeys tall above a cellar and has three bays with an eaves cornice.
The doorway features late 19th-century panelled double doors beneath an overlight that has the words 'BOROUGH CLUB' in leaded glass. This entrance is protected by an open porch supported by Tuscan columns, which have engaged column responds, and is topped with a wrought-iron balustrade. The contemporary early 19th-century porch is flanked by late 19th-century canted bay windows that have contemporary sashes. The upper floors have windows with plain reveals; the first-floor windows are sashed without glazing bars, while the second-floor windows have 9-pane sashes.
