Description
Number 4 is a house that now serves as council offices, built around 1830 and restored in the late 1980s. It is constructed of sandstone ashlar and features a slate roof. The building has a double-depth plan with the entrance and a rear wing on the right side, while a large shared gable chimney stack is located on the left. It stands three storeys tall above a basement, which opens onto an area, and has two bays with a sill band on the first floor.
The entrance is situated in the right-hand bay and is accessed by six steps. It features a plain surround and a simple pediment supported by fluted consoles. The door is recessed and consists of nine raised and fielded panels topped by a plain overlight. All windows have plain reveals and are fitted with glazing bar sashes that were added during the restoration.
To the left of the steps leading to the door, there are bar railings with a handrail that is ramped at the top and ends with an acorn finial at the bottom. The basement area is enclosed by slightly different railings, which include a gate on the left that leads to a flight of steps.
