Description
Hawkshead Farmhouse and the adjoining barn, located to the north-east, date from the late 17th century and have been altered over time. The farmhouse is constructed of sandstone rubble and features a roof made of slate and stone slate. The front wall, which faces southeast, is partly obscured by a 19th-century extension that has a parallel roof. On the left side of the farmhouse, there is a blocked 2-light fire window, and to its right, a 4-light window with rebated and chamfered mullions. Above this, on the first floor, is a similar 5-light window. The entrance door, located further right at the junction with the extension, is sheltered by a stone porch. The left gable has a chimney, and its wall features one-light chamfered windows in both the attic and first floors, with all but one blocked. At the rear of the farmhouse, several mullioned windows can still be seen. The interior was not accessible during the survey.
The barn, situated to the right of the farmhouse, has a stone slate roof and a wide entrance with a segmental arch and a gabled canopy. On the left side of the barn, there is a doorway with a re-set lintel that has a cyma moulding across its face, also in a segmental arch, inscribed with '1678 AB'.
