Description
The icehouse in the grounds of Gresgarth Hall is likely from the early 19th century and is constructed of sandstone rubble. It is built into a hillside and features a door to the entrance passage with plain reveals and a stone lintel. Above the entrance, there is a small gable. The structure has convex retaining walls on each side, with the right-hand wall leaning forward and partly obstructing the entrance. The entrance passage includes iron pins for external door hinges and a rebate for an inner door. Inside, the chamber has a rectangular plan, a level floor, and a barrel vault.
