Description

Oak Cottage is a house dating from 1819. It is constructed of sandstone rubble with a stone slate roof. The building is one and a half storeys high, with two bays. The windows have plain reveals and pointed heads with intersecting glazing bars above modern casements. The central doorway is also treated in a similar gothic style, featuring a tympanum with intersecting ribs. The door itself has diagonal ribs, intersecting in a diamond pattern. Above the door is a plaque inscribed: ‘TME 1819 Oak cottage’. The eaves overhang the front and have a bargeboard carved to form pendants. A chimney is located on the right-hand gable. The left-hand gable wall has a window set under the apex, mirroring the style of the front windows. The cottage is comparable to C.F. Gresgarth Lodge.
