Description

The Cross Keys and adjoining barn is a public house built in 1727 and 1830, with alterations made in the early 20th century. The building is constructed from rendered rubble and features a slate roof. It has two storeys, with the left-hand portion showcasing a central entrance flanked by gable stacks. The ground floor includes mullioned windows, all of which are chamfered and rendered. To the left of the entrance is a two-light window, while to the right is a three-light window. The first floor has two sash windows set in plain stone surrounds. The doorway has a chamfered rendered surround, with the date and initials 'RSM 1727' inscribed on the lintel.

The right-hand portion of the building features three two-light rendered chamfered mullioned windows on the ground floor, with two sash windows in plain stone surrounds above. A plaque inscribed 'WPM 1830' is located between the first-floor windows. The southern facade is gabled and includes similar reproduction mullioned windows made of cement render.

Adjoining the left side is a barn made of rubble with a slate roof. The left part of the barn's facade is skewed to align with the road, featuring a wide chamfered opening with a concrete lintel. To the right, there is a wide blocked opening with a segmental arch, which has dressed voussoirs and a keystone. The gable wall on the left has a doorway with chamfered jambs and lintel, along with a two-light rebated and chamfered mullioned window positioned under the apex.
