Description

Higher Antley Hall and Higher Antley Cottage is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, which was renovated and altered in 1927 to create two separate dwellings. The building is constructed from coursed rubble with quoins, now covered in pebble-dash, and features a stone slate roof with two ridge chimney stacks, stone gable copings, and kneelers, although the ball finials are not original.

It has a typical three-bay baffle-entry design and is two stories high, with a gabled two-story porch located at the junction of the first and second bays. There is also a short two-story outshut at the rear of the third bay. The porch includes a Tudor-arched doorway with a deep lintel, which is framed by a hoodmould. The upper floor overhangs and has a square recess for a datestone, which has been altered. The facade features eight renovated windows in their original openings, complete with restored hoodmoulds—one on the ground floor and seven above—along with two new windows that mimic the original style.

On the right return wall, there are two original two-light double-chamfered stone mullion windows, while the rear of the building has a small round-headed window on the first floor. Inside, there is an original large chimney stack with stone-arched fireplaces positioned back-to-back, although the interior has otherwise been altered.
