Description

Rough Heys Farmhouse, dating from the later 18th century and now a house, stands alongside an attached barn. The farmhouse is constructed from roughly coursed, thin sandstone rubble with quoins, and has a stone slate roof topped by a single ridge chimney and two gable chimneys. It follows a rectangular, single-pile three-bay plan. The two-storey front features a doorway in the first bay, and three large rectangular windows on each floor, all with plain stone surrounds and altered glazing. The right gable wall displays various altered or blocked windows, including an oval opening at attic level, filled with a modern datestone. A rear door has a lintel lettered "I 1726 E”.

The farmhouse incorporates a four-bay barn in its rear wall. The barn features rusticated quoins, opposed wagon arches with rusticated surrounds and a keystone dated 1877, three bullseye windows on the first floor, and various ground floor doors and windows. The barn’s rear corner abuts a quoined wall of the farmhouse. A large datestone is set into the barn wall. The property is situated within a farmyard and is adjacent to Rough Heys Farm Cottage.
