Description

The Richmond Hill Street Works, specifically the south block known as the Top Shop, is an engineering workshop built in 1888 for Howard and Bullough, who manufactured textile machinery. The building is constructed from rock-faced stone with ashlar dressings and has a rectangular plan measuring 13 by 4 bays. It stands four storeys tall and features quoins, a first-floor sill string, and a prominent moulded cornice. The ground floor includes round-headed openings with ashlar voussoirs and keystones, although some have been altered. The three upper floors are adorned with segmental-headed windows that also feature keystones, but the glazing has been entirely changed.
