Description

This is a mid-19th century former school, built alongside Christ Church in 1837. The building is constructed of ashlar stone with a slate roof and stone gable copings, laid out in a T-shaped plan. It is a single-story structure. The front facade, which faces Christ Church, is symmetrical and six bays wide, with buttresses. A central, buttressed and gabled double porch features two arched doorways supported by shafts. Tall, paired lancet windows are located in the two bays on either side of the porch; these are now blocked. The east gable wall contains two similar blocked windows, between which is a tall lancet recess containing two shafted niches with open traceried heads. Above the openings is a straight hollow-moulded dripcourse containing ball flower ornament. The apex of the gable has a trefoil with a hoodmould. A lower, single-story wing at the rear has been altered. The windows throughout the building are lancet style, with hoodmoulds featuring figured stops.
