Description
Cruck Barn is a cruck-framed barn, probably from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. The barn is primarily constructed of common brick, with gables mostly made of handmade brick, and some patches of similar brick remaining on the north side. It features a slate roof with two levels and has a rectangular four-bay plan. The east bay has a steeply-pitched roof and low eaves, while the rest has been rebuilt to a higher level. There is a wagon entrance located in the second bay on the north side. The most notable feature is the interior, which includes a full cruck truss at the junction of the old and new sections of the building. This truss has a yoke, a collar, and vacant housings for a tie-beam. The barn is listed as a now rare example of a structure that was once typical of Fylde building.
