Description
Hawthorn House is a farmhouse dating from the early 18th century, with alterations made in the early 19th century. It now functions as a house. The facade is finished in scored stucco and features a moulded cornice. The roof is slate and has a chimney located at the junction of the second and third bays, with another chimney at the left end. The building has a three-bay baffle-entry plan, with an outshut to the first bay and part of the second bay that incorporates the staircase. It is two storeys high and has a doorway at the junction of the second and third bays, which includes a studded door with ornamental hinges, an elliptical-arched hollowed surround, and a traceried fanlight that is now damaged as of 1984. Flanking the doorway are Tuscan semicolumns with a cornice. There are three windows on each floor, with 16 panes on the ground floor and 12 panes above. The interior has not been inspected but is believed to contain back-to-back rectangular stone fireplaces.
