Description
The pebble pavement in Queen Street, Lytham, is a section of walkway made from multi-coloured pebbles, mainly dark grey, pink, white, and blue. This pavement runs along part of the east side of Queen Street and is believed to date from the early to mid-19th century, with some later repairs. It consists of beach pebbles laid thin side up on sand and features various inlaid patterns.
The length of the pebble pavement is located in front of Nos. 12 and 13 Queen Street and is bordered by granite setts at the roadside. It includes five designs made of light-coloured stones, each framed by similar stones and set against a background of predominantly dark grey pebbles. The designs, from south to north, include a candelabra with vibrant red and blue details, a heart made from a double row of white pebbles with a single inner row, a small white star over a mound that may represent a hill, a simple design thought to depict a tree or shrub, and an intricate crown featuring the date 1854 in a smaller adjacent frame.
