Description
Parr Hall is a farmhouse that has been converted into two dwellings. It is dated 1721 at the first floor and was remodeled in 1934. The building is constructed of handmade brick and features a slate roof with a chimney at the right gable. It has a double-depth, two-bay plan, with an added rear wing. Originally three storeys high, it has been reduced to two storeys and an attic, and it presents an almost symmetrical facade.
The exterior includes a chamfered stone plinth and dressed sandstone bands at the first floor and eaves level, with small raised quoins. The entrance, offset to the left of center, features a door with shouldered panels and a semi-circular canopy supported by carved wooden consoles, both of which replicate original designs. Above the door, there is a datestone in a moulded surround, inscribed with "P E I TP 1721" and surrounded by slender foliated patterns. To the left, each floor has one large transomed three-light window with a gauged segmental brick head and altered glazing. To the right, there are two vertical rectangular windows on each floor, with similar heads; the first on the ground floor has been altered to serve as a door, while the others have modified glazing.
The left gable features modern windows on each floor and the attic. The rear of the building has a large two-and-a-half-storey wing that was added in the 19th century to accommodate horse-drawn buses, with a modern flight of stone steps leading up to a first-floor entrance. Inside, the property boasts tongue-stopped chamfered beams and a three-storey dog-legged staircase with a closed modelled string, shouldered-panel rectangular newels, turned balusters, and a broad moulded handrail.
