Description

Eccleston Old School is a small, two-storey building that now serves as a parish hall. It was constructed in 1814, as indicated on a plaque on the first floor. The building is made of coursed squared sandstone and features a low-pitched hipped slate roof without a chimney. It has dressed quoins and primitive Gothic openings.

On the left end, there is a pointed arch doorway with a plain surround, and above it, a squat window of the same shape, which has square casements in the lower part and Y-tracery in the head. To the right, there are two similar windows on each floor, with the ground floor windows positioned slightly higher. All the windows have vertical bars in front of the opening part of the casement.

The plaque between the second and third windows on the first floor reads: "For the Encouragement of useful Learning And For The Promotion of true Religion This BUILDING was erected By Public SUBSCRIPTION An:Dom: 1814."

This building forms a group with Bank House, which is located immediately to the north.
