Description
This building is a coachhouse and stable dating from the 17th century, located approximately 4 metres north of the north-west tower of Hoghton Tower. It has been altered for use as garages. The structure is made of squared sandstone with quoins and features a stone slate roof topped with a louvred lantern at the ridge. It has a rectangular plan, likely consisting of three bays, and stands two storeys tall. The building includes some slit breathers and stone gable copings with ball finials on the kneelers and apex. There are entrances on the north side, with a high screen wall at the centre that has a round-archway entrance, although the principal doorways have been altered. An additional screen wall is attached to the east gable. The west gable features coupled three-light windows at the ground floor, while the south side wall has two two-light mullioned windows at the first floor.
